Distillations culls the visual language of health, beauty and lifestyle advertising for the basis of a series of sculptures and collages. Scientific diagrams, applicator tips, ecstatic drips and sensual smudges are recast as minimalist forms and carefully composed arrangements. The hand-built ceramic sculptures in the series rematerialize details of pseudoscientific diagrams and apparatus from the images. Titles for the series are taken from the adspeak in the magazine sources and include aspirational language that conflates science, magic, technology, and salvation with phrases like:
