Photographically based work by Bay Area artists will be on view at Studio Z Gallery from November 15 through November 29, 2001.

Residual Images includes a wide range of media and practices that represent the diverse ways that artists use photographic processes and materials in their work. Some artists use photographic images only as a point of departure. Other artists use photographs in mixed media sculptures or as the final work.

Photographic images are the residual effect of light hitting a sensitized surface such as film or paper. The Residual Images exhibit explores this phenomenon in both literal and metaphorical terms. The artists investigate and challenge the residual perceptions that an image can trigger and manifest.
